(Satellite)Satellite tags are externally attached tags that have the ability to transmit geological position when exposed to the water surface. Remote receiving stations must be within rage of the transmitter in order to recover data from the storage tags. Tags are often designed to record and transmit environmental data similar to data storage tags.
Advantages:
- Tag does not need to be recovered to retrieve data.
Disadvantages:
- Tags are expensive
- Transmissions require the antenna to be above water and within rage of a receiver
